Seahawks re-sign O’Brien Schofield
Posted by Bob Condotta
According to O’Brien Schofield’s Twitter page, he has re-signed with the Seahawks:
The linebacker/defensive end was an unrestricted free agent following the 2013 season, and originally had agreed to a two-year, $8 million deal with the New York Giants.
But that deal was not completed after the Giants had concerns about Schofield’s knee — he has overcome a previous ACL tear.
Seattle had been known interested in bringing him back at a low salary — he’s probably going to make at or near the minimum.
This means all of Seattle’s unrestricted free agents are now signed for 2014 other than fullback Michael Robinson, who will likely retire.
Schofield, picked up by Seattle in late July after being released by Arizona, had seven tackles and one sack for Seattle last year, starting two of the first three games when Seattle had depth issues at defensive end/linebacker with Bruce Irvin suspended.
He also played in two of the playoff games, including making a tackle in the Super Bowl, though he was inactive for the NFC title game against the 49ers.
Schofield turned 27 last month.
