Good morning. Here’s what’s “out there” about the Seahawks for today, June 14:
Mike Sando of ESPN.com shares more of his recent interview with wide receiver Mike Williams. Williams wasn’t voted comebacker player of the year last season, but his return to the NFL after being out of the league the previous two seasons is a made-for-TV-movie of a success story. Except that Williams tired quickly of that storyline, no matter how intriguing. Says Williams: “The reality is, it is a wonderful story, but when you talk football, I am still looking at a 60-catch, 700-yard season. You get past the Oprah part of it, the feel-good part of it, you are looking at a player who has to do better.”
Earl Thomas, coming off an improved-as-the-season-progressed rookie campaign, checked in at No. 11 – or just out of the Top 10 – when USA Today came up with its rankings for safeties in the league. Says Gary Mihoces, who wrote the story: “Because of the increased demands on safeties, some teams are making the conversions with younger players.” That fits the Seahawks, who selected Thomas with the 14th pick in last year’s draft; are expecting Kam Chancellor, a fifth-round pick last year, to compete for the strong safety spot Lawyer Milloy filled last season; and also have plans for Mark LeGree, a safety who was drafted in the fifth round this year.
