It seemed as though the Rams were quite successful in containing the edges the last game of the season and Wilson was struggling for most of the game. But then again he was facing both outside containment and inside pressure, which shouldn't happen unless the OL was getting manhandled. If defenses can have their way with the OL like that, then they will succeed in keeping Wilson in the pocket. But if the OL is playing up to par, then conceivably any team that tries to do that will take a thrashing against our running game, especially with a guy like Lynch who likes to run between the tackles.
I do agree with you in a sense as far as Wilson not being a pocket passer. I think he does fine at it when he can pick his spots to throw from the pocket but if he's reduced to JUST that, if his ability to move is reduced, he'll be in trouble.

The Rams have one of the better defensive lines in terms of pressuring the QB. And with all that, game on the line, needing a TD to win, Wilson drove his team down the field and won the game.

He also led one of the best comebacks in NFL history only to have his defense blow the game with 30 seconds left on the clock. The book on Wilson is open and shut. He is a very good, soon to be elite QB in the league. And this is coming from a huge Wilson basher at the start of last season. This thread isn't to debate whether or not Wilson is or will be a good QB. This thread is to confirm that Wilson IS a better QB and person than Kap.

Concerning the stat comparison on Wilson inside the pocket vs out, if you can find any info on tipped passes/pass attempts from inside the pocket and post it on here it would be much appreciated. I'd like to compare that to CK's numbers. Niner fans seem to be hung up on the height issue still, even though Wilson pretty much blew that out of the water last year.
@ One Yes I was aware of that concerning the Rams' DL and had it in mind to mention it in my earlier post. I usually have a lot on my mind when I'm posting about the Hawks so I have to leave some stuff out so my posts aren't more long-winded than they already are.
But yes, what you say is true and I can see that DL of theirs getting even better and will become a huge problem for the rest of the division if the Rams ever succeed in putting a contender together. That DL almost caused the Hawks to lose their only home game of the season.

I don't know where to find the data, and I'm sure there were a couple batted down passes but off the top of my mind I can't think of a single time Wilson had a pass batted down at the line of scrimmage. I don't think that has ever been an issue in his football career.

If I'm not mistaken, I think he only had 4 deflections the entire season. Even if all four of them were thrown inside the pocket, I'm guessing the ratio of deflections to total pocket attempts will be significantly better than CK's. But I wanted to find the actual numbers to confirm it, both Wilson's and CK's numbers. Then the height advantage that so many Niner fans want to hang their hat on in the QB comparison becomes invalidated.
For starters, at one point late in the season Wilson had 4 tipped passes and the 6'4" Luck had 16.
The stats that Sando gave pretty much confirms that Wilson is unaffected by his height when throwing from the pocket and the tipped passes is just an aside to further confirm it.

Your right 1, he is broad shouldered and I'm not looking the gift horse in the mouth. With the rules putting green shields of cash in the form of fines surrounding QB's hopefully we never have to find out just how hard of a lick he can take. Again I'm not talking doom and gloom just wanting our oline to improve.

Last year I was convinced defenses would start containing the edges so Wilson couldn't roll out. So I did a little research and found some interesting facts.

Wilson rolled right 62% of the time which is strange because that's Breno's side. Other than all the penalties maybe Breno isn't so bad.

We didn't run any 2 back sets or I formations.

It was Shotgun and Lone setback about 50/50.

Almost every pass play was RW rolling out before being contained. My concern is that if his mobility is reduced it's pretty much game over. He is not a pocket passer.
