Isn't Shottenheimer about dead?

I had mentioned I would like Marty before on the forums, and for that same reason. The man has 2 losing seasons in 21 years, that's one hell of a record and he turns organizations around. Do I think we will get him? No, because he wants to be HC and have powers over GM, plus would want to bring in Brian no matter what team he goes too (which was what sparked the argument he had in SD).

The problem is I had read an article about a month ago where Marty was interviewed about the possibility of going to the Browns. He said he was happy and honored his name was still floating around, but that he plans to stay retired and spend his time with his grand kids.

I remember being sad that a Legendary coach like himself had lost the spark to coach, but it seems that ship has sailed.

(btw, there is a silent c before the h, big fan of his so I know how to spell his insane name Schottenheimer.)

Marty cannot win when it counts... in the playoffs.

Given a possible NFL Lockout after 2010 I don't think a lot of owners are going to pull the plug on coaches. The way it's looking with the current Labor neogatitions are not good. If they don't get one done it's a very possible chance that 2011 there is no NFL season. With that I don't think Allen will want to get rid of Mora and have to sign a coach long-term when possibly there won't be a season in '11.

DeMaurice Smith is a man I am not a fan of. I remember watching an interview with him and he was asked what he would be willing to give up to meet in the middle with the owners. His reply was "NOTHING" and that the owners need to open their books up so he can see how much they make and decide how much the players should get from there.

Imagine me being employed by McDonalds and I decide Ronald needs to open up his finance books so I can see the net worth of McDonalds so I can decide a fair wage for flipping burgers.

DeMaurice Smith got his job due to his connection to Obama and he has no experience working in the sports industry prior. I am still pissed he was elected but am hoping he will change his mind and actually negotiate realistically so we can continue to have an NFL. A year off would really hurt the league.

Cowher took 14 years to win a Super Bowl (we were swindled) and on the 15th he had no ambition left as he got his ring and lead the Steelers to 8-8. Not interested in Cowher unless we plan on giving him 15 years.

I agree with you on needing to be more accommodating to negotiations and asking the owners to open their books is dumb (although your example of McDonald's does not make sense since they are a publicly traded company and I can see their books any time I wish). But can you please provide some proof that Smith got his job because of his connection with Obama?

Um. Really? Cowher took the Steelers to a Super Bowl after his fourth season. It took your Golden Boy Holmgren seven seasons to accomplish the same thing. Holmgren took the Seahawks to one conference championship. Cowher took the Steelers to six. I am having a lot of difficulty understanding how you defend Holmgren but blast Cowher. I am pretty sure you just nullified any argument you had for Holmgren. Nice job.

Cowher did not win until his 14th which was what I was referring. 15 years is a long time for any coach to have with a single team, also his 8-8 season following the win of the Super Bowl I felt was due to him not truly wanting to be in the NFL anymore.

McDonalds example was simply an example of a large corporation which makes lots of money having it employee feel it should have a say on its wages based on the companies income. Such as a burger flipping high schooler should be paid 12 million dollars a year instead of minimum wage based on the success of the company.

As for DeMaurice Smith, here are a few links for you to check out. I was upset with his election as well as his interview, but keep hoping things will turn around. I like the guy as a person he seems like a great guy, but I do not believe he is the most qualified guy to run the NFLPA. He has no real tie to sports and how they function as a business and it seems that may lead us to lockout. Just my opinion ofcourse.

18 I know we are always on opposite sides of every discussion, but don't take offense of it. It is not like I wake up in the morning ready to oppose 18, were just both Seahawks fans with different opinions about coaches players and the NFL in general. Will say I think us going back and forth has brought out some great information to the forums.

Gruden won with Dungy's team, then was average @ best in Tampa. Not sure if he's the best fit for us. But I would take Gruden over Mora right now!!! LOL :lol:

I know. I'm just trying to figure out how you DON'T want Cowher, but would commit murder for Holmgren when Cowher CLEARLY had more success in Pittsburgh than Holmgren did in Seattle.

And none of those links you provided stated that Smith got the job because of his ties with Obama. I did not ask for proof that he has ties, I asked for proof that he got the job because of those ties. The last time I checked, the union representatives elected Smith.

Some of those links provide that his connection to Obama and other high profile people influenced the decision to take him over someone who was more qualified. The man never worked in the sports industry, and from his attitude and approach towards a new agreement I do not see us getting a deal done. I hope he is just testing the owners trying to see how far they will bend before he begins too, but from what I see the man will not budge.

The classic saying it is not what you know but who you know seems to ring true for him as him being a candidate for the position seems unlikely without high profile support, and winning seems even a farther stretch. But he did and hes here now, I simply do not approve.

Gruden or Cowher I would take Cowher. I know Cowher is a good coach, but I did not like how his fire died after he got the ring. The man got what he wanted and bailed on the team imo. How many losses would it take before he bails on us? I would rather not wait to find out. Also, inheriting the Steelers is far from inheriting the Seahawks.

As I said Gruden thinks Tebow is going to change the game of football forever, and for that reason I would not want him as my coach. Tebow will bust mark my words.

We won't know what will happen till we know who the next GM is. Since Holmgren is out I have no idea what direction we will go. I will just have to sit and wait. I just know I would like Mora gone, O-Linemen in draft/FA, a QB in the draft (Bradford if he falls far enough due to injury), Zorn to return (likely will be a Brown soon enough), and would like to pick up Graham Harrell to compete along with the other young men and see if he can be molded. The kid has talent imo, it is seeing if he can adapt to being under center.

Care to point out which ones? Obama is only mentioned in two of those articles. But let us assume you are correct and he did get appointed because of his ties with Obama. I still think you overlook one simple fact: the players selected Smith. And that one fact makes anything else that you and I can banter about irrelevant.

As for Cowher bailing on his team, that could be the case. More likely, his season was rough and he wanted a break.

I agree about Tebow. I do not want him. Calling him a bust, well, that depends on where in the draft he is taken.
