Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2, 2-1 Tied-2nd in AFC South) at Seattle Seahawks (1-3, 1-1 3rd in NFC West)
Kick-off Time: 4:15 ET, 1:15 PT
Location: Qwest Stadium
Announcers: CBS Kevin Harlan (play-by-play) and Solomon Wilcots (Color Commentator)
Last Meeting: Jaguars 26-14 in Jacksonville Opening Week. Seahawks would end going to the Super Bowl.
Analysis:
Matt Hasselbeck returns to action for the Seahawks after having missed two-games in which they lost. With Hasselbeck back, but three of the Seahawks starting offensive linemen out look for them to try and establish the passing game. Nate Burleson was Hasselbeck’s go-to-guy in week one and should see an increase in receptions this week. Especially with the Seahawks most likely going to attack Brian Russell and see if his Seahawk play has carried over with him. Julius Jones had an off week after having been quite successful the week before. Look for him to try and find something to give with the injured line, but might see Owen Schmitt making some receptions in the backfield to try and decoy the Jaguars.
Defensively the Seahawks need to get to David Garrard. When no one gets to Garrard he’s shown he’s a force at quarterback, but when pressure is on him a lot of the time he gets rattled and turns it over. Patrick Kerney is out this week, but Lawrence Jackson has been playing like the Seahawks thought he could when they took him the first-round and Darryl Tapp will give the 12th Man a look at the possible future of the end position. Josh Wilson returns to action allowing the passing defense to upgrade compared to Kelly Jennings starting. Lofa Tatupu also returns and will help Aaron Curry maybe not get as covered as much. However the main thing the Seahawks can do is apply pressure. Something they haven’t done much this year or in the past year.
Prediction: Seahawks 17-14. In a close battle till the end Mare hits a game-winning field goal after a missed one, but an off-sides by the Jaguars lets him redeem himself.
Season Record: 1-1
Connections:
-Seahawks Wide Receivers coach Robert Prince spent 2007-08 with the Jaguars as their Wide Receivers coach.
-Seahawks Deon Grant signed with the Seahawks in the off-season of the 2007 season after having played 2004-06 with the Jaguars. He didn’t miss a single game during that span and compiled 7 INTs and 2.5 sacks.
-Jaguars Courtney Greene has played in one game for them after being let go by the Seahawks after Pre-Season. Greene was a seventh-round selection in the 2009 Draft out of Rutgers.
-Jaguars also signed Brian Russell after the Seahawks cut him to get their roster down to 53-men. Russell spent two-years in Seattle playing in 32 games having one INT and two sacks.
-Jaguars Offensive Line coach Andy Heck played for the Seahawks in 1989-93 after attending Notre Dame.
-Jaguars Assistant Defensive Backs coach Thom Kaumeyer played for the Seahawks from 1989-90.
-Jaguars Special Teams coach Russ Purnell coached the Seahawks from 1986-94.
-Jaguars Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator Mike Tice played for the Seahawks from 1981-88 and then again 1990-91 as their tight end.
Seahawks News of the Week:
-Seahawks re-signed FB Justin Griffith and placed Kyle Williams on the Practice Squad. However Williams is back on the active roster as Michael Bennett was cut to make room for Williams.
-Griffith, Leroy Hill, Rob Sims, Walter Jones, Sean Locklear, Cameron Morrah and Patrick Kerney will be inactive.
-Matt Hasselbeck will return to action after missing two games with a rib injury.

Re: WEEK 5: JAGUARS @ SEAHAWKS GAMEDAY THREAD

Crowd sounds great! Good defense against the run. Great gameplan early for us, force Jacksonville to pass...

Matt sounds good, but why throw short on 3rd down?

FIRE DEL RIO :harvey: :pissed: :pissed: :harvey:
It wasn't Del Rio. The Hawks defense brought pressure and Garrard couldn't handle it. When they didn't, he completed passes. The Hawks also forced turnovers, which didn't happen much prior to this game.

At the end of the game the Seahawks ran the clock down. I believe they started the drive with 11 minutes or so and the Jags couldn't stop Edge from picking up the 1st down when he needed to.

Bob-
Yeah they signed him about two days after we had cut him. He was the typical Russell we remember.
