Arizona Cardinals (2-2, 0-1 2nd-NFC West) at Seattle Seahawks (2-3, 1-1 3rd-NFC West)
Stadium: Qwest Field
Announcers: FOX Chris Myers (play-by-play) and Brian Billick (color commentator)
Last Meeting: Cardinals 34-21 in Mike Holmgren’s final game as Seahawks Head Coach Kurt Warner passed for 263-yards as the future NFC representatives in the Super Bowl won their season finale.
Analysis:
The Seahawks offense was clicking last week in all aspects of the game- mainly passing in their 41-0 win over the Jaguars. This week the Seahawks look for some of the same performances from the key guys in that victory. Seattle’s line will have another player missing in Brandon Frye, but will have a veteran replacing him in Damion McIntosh- also a reliable lineman. John Carlson’s offensive production wasn’t among the highlights of the win, but that could change as a healthy Hasselbeck is more comfortable behind center. Edgerrin James has an incentive to do well against his former team and teammates. Nate Burleson and TJ Houshmandzadeh look to repeat their performances from last week. However they need to get the running game a little more involved this week than it was last week.
Defensively the Seahawks did just about everything right last week- starting up front with the pressure. That’s expected to carry over this week as the Seahawks take on Kurt Warner. The Seahawks need to get pressure and Warner and try to contain Larry Fitzgerald the best they can without Marcus Trufant. Ken Lucas will be playing with a heavy heart and look for his teammates to help him through the tough times and get together as a team. The key for the Seahawks success is the ability to get pressure on the Cardinals and try and contain the Cardinals passing game. If the Seahawks can do that then they might be able to get the offensive production going too and make it a game.
Prediction: The Seahawks have the 12th Man on their side, but will have to play the full 60-minutes of the game. Secondary that’s a problem, but offensively with a healthy Matt Hasselbeck behind center the Seahawks come out with a big win heading into the bye week- Seahawks 24-21.
