Doing the research for a series of articles on the Seahawks’ first 35 seasons has uncovered some interesting statistics. Like, the kicker has not led the team in scoring only six times.
The first came in 1978, when fullback David Sims scored 90 points (on 15 touchdowns) to top kicker Efren Herrera (79 points). It also happened in 1981, when wide receiver Steve Largent scored 60 points (on 10 touchdowns) to nudge Herrera by one. Largent and kicker John Leypoldt also tied in 1977, with 60 points.
Then, along came Shaun Alexander. The three-time Pro Bowl running back and league MVP in 2005 led the team in scoring four times in a five-season span: 2001, with 93 points; 2002, with 108 points; 2004, with 120 points; and 2005, with a club-record 168 points – complements of his then-NFL record 28 touchdowns.
