A quick recap of the day’s events at Virginia Mason Athletic Center, because we’ve got a plane to catch:
FOCUS ON
Feet. Say what? That’s what coach Pete Carroll said was the main emphasis for the offensive linemen this week as they strived to improve on their opening-day perform in Sunday’s game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
“Tom (Cable, the line coach) really struck a note with the fellas about finishing at the line of scrimmage better than we had,” Carroll said after the team’s 90-minute practice. “Physically, we needed to play more technique sound, and he did a couple things guys understood. And it absolutely showed up on the practice field this week.”
For example? “It’s about finishing and working their feet the way they have to properly,” Carroll said. “I’m really anxious to see of that generates something different for us.”
Robert Gallery is back, so that should help. He’ll step back in at left guard after sitting out the opener against the 49ers, allowing rookie James Carpenter to move back to right tackle.
PLAYER WATCH
Sidney Rice. The free-agent wide receiver participated in practice – on a limited basis – but will not play against the Steelers. Carroll said it has been decided to rest Rice another week in hopes that he’ll be ready for next week’s home opener against the Cardinals.
“Sidney won’t make it in this one, but he had a lot of work and gave us the thought that he has a chance next week – a pretty solid chance next week,” Carroll said. “So that would be good stuff.”
Rookie receiver Kris Durham likely will be active this week, Carroll said.
