Hey guys, first post, take it easy! ha. All the way from Wales in the UK, been a fan of NFL for years but decided to follow the Seahawks, dont know much info on the Seahawks so here goes:

Right whats the 'LEO' role that we expect Irvin to play?

Do we play a traditional 4-3?

Is Irvin going to play DE or OLB?

How good is our D? How good can it be? Is it a young D??

Please take it easy, appreciate all responses. Thanks

A Leo is basically a defensive end that stands up and plays more like an OLB in a 3-4 defense. He will primarily be a pass rusher, but he can also play some pass coverage.
No, Pete Carroll describes it as a hybrid 4-3/3-4 defense.

    Defensive end.

They were 11th against the pass and 15th against the rush last season. If guys can stay healthy (Trufant and Thurmond) and if Clemons and Irvin can disrupt the QB, they should get better against the pass. This offseason, they really haven't done much to improve their rush defense. They lost Hawthorne who was a beast up the middle for them.
The defense is young and will only continue to get better. If everyone stays healthy in the secondary, they should get into the Top 10 in pass defense. If the new linebackers can make up for the loss of Hawthorne, they should be able to stay in the Top 15 in rush defense.

The LEO is a staple of Pete Carroll's defense. What it is, is an undersized defensive end that lines up wide and is practically only a pass rusher.

No, we don't play a traditional 4-3, in fact in an interview with Pete Carroll I heard recently he said something along the lines of "we play kind of a hybrid 4-3/3-4"

Irvin will take over the role Rraheem Brock played last season, so DE.

Our D is very good and very young, especially in the secondary. If we could get more pressure on the QB, I could see us being a top 5 defense this year.

And finally, welcome to the site! No one here is going to get on your case for trying to learn more aboout the team.

Welcome to the site G man, and yes our D is young and up and coming.

With the draft additions (mostly all defense) and the maturing of younger secondary and LB, we should be looking at a top 10 defense. The addition of James Jones and the resigning of Mebane, Branch, Red, we are VERY stout up front. Clemens is our current Leo and a damn good one.

Pete carroll does run a 4-3 but has a elephant or Leo pass rusher, smaller explosive End or fast OLB that is splitt out, can blitz (typical) or fall into zone coverage.

Pete Carrol defense utilizes bigger DB's that play press coverage with an agreesive style focused on turn overs and big plays. He likes the DL BIG and to stop the run, LB to be sure tacklers, and able to play coverage as well. PC main focus on defense is to STOP the run, which mirrors his focus on offense, which it is run the ball first.
