Source: Mora fired by Seahawks

ESPN.com
Seattle Seahawks coach Jim Mora has been fired after one season, a source told ESPN.com's John Clayton.

Mora attended a meeting Friday morning with management, at which time he was told Seattle did not win enough games to save his job, the source said. The Seahawks finished 5-11.

FoxSports.com first reported Mora's ouster.

Once Mora was fired, the Seahawks called the Minnesota Vikings to seek permission to interview defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, the source told Clayton.

Mora joined the Seahawks in February 2008 on a five-year contract that called for him to transition to head coach once Mike Holmgren retired. Mora was an assistant for the 2008 season, then succeeded Holmgren.

I have a feeling this is gonna be a completely different team next year. Personnell wise.

Dump half the roster, and give us a contender!

I'm really surprised about this (not disappointed though). I thought for sure we would keep him one more year. Time to hire Gruden. No Cowher wag lol.

I'm getting word that Leslie Frazier has declined to interview for the position. Not sure if that's cause the Vikings are still in the playoffs or if he's not interested in the position with Seattle.

Danny O'Neil Told ESPN 710 this firing came from Paul Allen. He's looking for a whole new direction from the coaching staff. Given that this might be the start. Greg Knapp and possibly Gus Bradley maybe informed of their time coming to an end very very soon.

Cowher? I'd rather not have the guy who coached the team that beat us in the Super Bowl.

I'd go with Gruden. ;)

Cowher is a guy I wouldn't mind. His intensity and fire is something we need. I would also not mind Jon Gruden at all!

Having said that he's some questions I have...
Tom Heckert canceled his meeting with us yesterday. Mike Holmgren still has sources in Seattle and is close to them. Could he know we might go after Cowher? Cowher wants full control of the team is this why we haven't been so active in a GM search? What about Jon Gruden? Paul Allen will spend we know that and he's willing to give full control to a coach just ask Holmgren.

not a good reason.
Why Gruden?
11 yrs HC
He had 4 good seasons (one taking over Dungys team) and alot of crappy ones
7 seasons 9 or less wins

Cowher vs tougher conf than TB/Gruden teams
15 seasons
10 seasons with 10 + wins
6 with 9 or fewer

Chris Mortensen is reporting Pete Carroll and Seahawks have very mutural feelings about the position. Supposdely Carroll is already working on his staff. Frazier has felt that his interview was just to comply with Rooney Rules.
